#3 Belvedere Palace

Belvedere Palace, one of the most important Baroque buildings in Vienna, consists of two magnificent palaces: the Upper and Lower Belvedere. It was built in the early 18th century by the famous architect Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt as a summer residence for Prince Eugene of Savoy, one of the most successful military leaders of the Habsburg monarchy. The ensemble is impressive not only because of its architecture and history but also because it houses one of Austria’s most significant art collections.

Art Enjoyment in a Magnificent Setting

The Upper Belvedere impresses with its elaborate facade and splendid interiors. It was primarily used for ceremonial purposes and is now home to an art museum. Here, you’ll find the world-famous collection of Austrian art, including Gustav Klimt’s perhaps most famous work, The Kiss. Works by Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka, and other major 19th- and 20th-century artists are also on display.

The Lower Belvedere, which originally housed Prince Eugene's private living quarters, captivates with its intimate, artfully designed rooms and the magnificent Marble Hall. Today, it hosts changing special exhibitions that cover various topics related to art and culture.

The Beautiful Baroque Gardens

Between the two palaces lie the beautifully laid-out baroque gardens, with their geometric shapes, fountains, and statues, which perfectly complement the ensemble.

A Paradise for Art and History Enthusiasts

The Belvedere Palace is a true treasure for anyone passionate about art, history, and architecture. With its impressive Baroque design, an outstanding collection of art historical masterpieces, and idyllic gardens, the Belvedere offers an unforgettable experience for every visitor.
